Buildings Project

In early 2008, Fiona Sinclair (Architect), Glasgow, was appointed as our architect and leader of the buildings project. Fiona is one of the leading restoration architects in Scotland. Her team comprises:

Architect - Fiona Sinclair (Glasgow)
Structural Engineers - John Addison Conservation and Design (Edinburgh)
Environmental Engineers - Mabbett & Associates (Glasgow)
Surveyors - Ross & Partners (Coatbridge)

Fiona's first task was to work with Forsyths to create an outline plan for a new Tun Room (for the washbacks) and Still House that would be big enough and appropriately proportioned to accommodate the Rankin/Forsyth distillery layout.

Fiona Sinclair and Teresa Church will work with Historic Scotland in creating an architectural style for the new buildings that will empathise with the existing structures and harmonise with the rural/woodland environment. Most distilleries (with a few notable exceptions) are actually quite ugly. Teresa plans to make Annandale Distillery 'spectacularly beautiful'.

Acquiring the mass of environmental and geotechnical data (Mabbett & Associates) needed to make a planning submission has undoubtedly been the biggest challenge to date. We presented our plans to Dumfries & Galloway Council at the end of December 2008.
