Annandale Distillery Declares Scottish Rugby Legend Doddie Weir a ‘Man o’Sword’ and fills 99 bottles of it’s first peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky for Doddie, bottles #2 – #5 will be auctioned online this month (December 2017).
Annandale Distillery’s peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, ‘Man o’ Sword’ was originally inspired by the courage and strength of King Robert the Bruce – Scotland’s Warrior King and 7th Earl of Annandale.
Robert the Bruce was one of several contenders for the Scottish throne in the early 1300s…Bruce battled bravely and with great determination to overcome the odds stacked against him
On December 1st 2014 Scotland Rugby Legend Doddie Weir filled the very first cask of Annandale’s peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, declaring it “Magnificent!”.
Three years on, at Noon on December 1st 2017, this cask was broached by Weir and 99 bottles subsequently filled to mark the 99 years since Annandale Distillery last produced Scotch Whisky.
Inspired by the courage and strength of Weir since his Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, Annandale Distillery will release all 99 of these unique and extremely valuable bottles to raise funds for the registered charity: My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Doddie Weir’5 Trust
As brave and bold are the defining characteristics of how we think of Man o’Sword…we thought it highly appropriate to fill the first 99 bottles to be drawn from this very first cask of Annandale Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky and name them ‘Doddie Weir – Man o’Sword’.
Bottle #1 will be kept at Annandale Distillery for posterity.
Bottles #2 – #5 will be gifted to Doddie’s Charities (the My Name’5 Doddie foundation and Doddie Weir’s Trust) and auctioned on (just-whisky.co.uk) in its upcoming online auction which runs from 8th – 17th December. ALL of the proceeds from these auctions will go to Doddie’s charities. These rare bottles feature a silver collar engraved with Doddie Weir’s signature and are presented in a bespoke, handcrafted box.
Bottle #5 – is extra special because Doddie played No.5 for Scotland. It is housed in an even more special presentation box (pictured below) and for the purposes of the auction, it will be paired-up with one of Doddie’s No.5 Scotland shirts duly signed by Doddie. This unique offer is expected to attract serious whisky collectors and Scottish rugby fans.
The number 99 is significant because it’s 99 years since Annandale Distillery last produced Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottles #6 – #99 will be filled into bottles emblazoned with the special ‘Doddie’s a Man o’Sword’ label and offered for sale by various routes and means to be agreed with the Trustees. This will happen in the early New Year 2018, with a significant chunk of the net proceeds going to Doddie’s charities. More details will follow as they become available.
