A Gastronomic Legacy Continued: 1610 at The Globe Inn Secures MICHELIN Guide Listing for 2026

by Lee Medd Feb 12 3 mins
The historic walls of The Globe Inn are celebrating once again as its fine-dining restaurant, 1610, has been officially retained in the prestigious MICHELIN Guide for 2026. This marks the fourth consecutive year the restaurant has held its coveted place in the guide, having been a consistent fixture since its inaugural listing in 2022.
Situated in the heart of Dumfries, The Globe Inn—first established in 1610—is world-renowned as the “favourite howff” of national bard Robert Burns. While the building’s snug bars and timber-panelled rooms remain a shrine to the poet’s life, the 1610 restaurant has transformed the former stables into an atmospheric sanctuary for modern Scottish cuisine.
A Garden-to-Plate Philosophy
The secret to 1610’s enduring success lies in its uncompromising dedication to freshness and provenance. Central to the curated seasonal menus is the use of produce grown at the restaurant’s own kitchen garden at Comlongon Estate. This dedicated space provides a continuous harvest of fruits, vegetables, and aromatic herbs, ensuring that every plate served is a vibrant reflection of the Dumfries and Galloway landscape.
Jonathan Brett, Head of Cuisine for the Annandale Distillery Group, commented on the achievement:
“To be included in the MICHELIN Guide once again is a profound recognition of the team’s tireless dedication to culinary excellence. Since we first entered the guide in 2022, our mission has been to elevate casual fine dining by treating every local ingredient with absolute respect. Our kitchen garden at Comlongon has become the heartbeat of our menu, allowing us to showcase the technical precision of our chefs through the purest, most immediate flavours available in Scotland”.
Fraser Cameron, Head Chef at 1610 and former Scottish Young Chef of the Year, added:
“Working with the produce from our own garden allows us to push the boundaries of technical precision while staying true to our roots. For me, professional success is a platform for community empowerment; whether we are plating a 7-course tasting menu or mentoring the next generation of talent, the goal is always to prove that world-class excellence and local inclusivity can coexist beautifully in Dumfries”.
Accessible Culinary Excellence: The Signature Tasting Experience
While many Michelin-listed establishments require booking far in advance, 1610 at The Globe Inn remains committed to making high-end gastronomy accessible. The restaurant’s signature 7-course tasting menu is a masterclass in seasonal storytelling, designed to take diners on a journey through the finest ingredients Scotland has to offer.
In a departure from traditional fine-dining formality, this curated experience is available to walk-in guests without the need for a prior reservation. Whether visiting for a sophisticated lunch or an indulgent dinner, guests can enjoy the full breadth of 1610’s technical artistry and garden-fresh produce on demand, ensuring that world-class dining is always within reach in Dumfries.
