Dumfries Chef Shortlisted for Prestigious Scholarship at The Ritz London
Fraser Cameron, the acclaimed Head Chef of Dumfries’s historic The Globe Inn, has been named a finalist for the prestigious HIT Scotland Legacy Scholarship Award. Cameron is one of just three chefs from across the country in the running for the grand prize: a five-day immersive learning experience at the two Michelin-starred Ritz London.
The scholarship, a collaboration between Scotland Food and Drink and HIT Scotland, was established to create a lasting legacy following Scotland’s first-ever hosting of the Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain and Ireland earlier this year. It aims to champion and develop the careers of Scotland’s most promising culinary talents.
Fraser Cameron, who has led the kitchen at The Globe Inn for six years, impressed the judges with his palpable passion, clear ambition, and deep-rooted commitment to showcasing the best of Scottish produce. If successful, he will have the invaluable opportunity to train under the mentorship of legendary Executive Chef John Williams MBE and his world-renowned team.
“It is an absolute honour to be in the final three for The Legacy Scholarship,” said Fraser Cameron. “Opportunities like this rarely come around and to have made it this far fills me with pride. The chance to learn and grow in a business that is not only leading the way in food terms, but sustainability, passion, refinement and elegance, I see as being key to my personal development. It truly is a once in a lifetime, money-can’t-buy opportunity.”
Cameron, who manages a team of nine chefs and eight front-of-house staff, is a graduate of UHI Perth with an HND in Professional Cookery. His distinguished career includes posts at some of Scotland’s most celebrated establishments, including Gleneagles, Leith’s Restaurant Martin Wishart, and Edinburgh’s 21212.
He added, “The scholarship also opens up the opportunity to pass on any knowledge I learn to my team, and the next generation of young talent, all while being an ambassador for Scotland Food and Drink and creating a memory of the historic first MICHELIN awards in Scotland!”
Fiona Richmond, Head of Regional Food at Scotland Food and Drink, commented, “Hosting the Michelin Guide Ceremony in Scotland for the first time helped to spotlight the exceptional culinary talent across the country.”
The winner will be announced at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow on Thursday, 4th September.
