Annandale Distillery Proudly Backs Annan Rowers for History-Making SkiffieWorlds

by Lee Medd Jul 7 2 mins

As the Annan Harbour Rowing Club’s ‘Pride of Annan’ skiff heads to Stranraer to compete in the historic SkiffieWorlds this week, the team will be proudly sporting new team colours thanks to the support of local sponsor, Annandale Distillery.

The world championship event, running from July 6-12, is set to be the largest-ever gathering of the St Ayles class of coastal rowing boats. Annan is one of 79 clubs from four continents competing, and their 14-strong team of rowers will be easily identifiable in their new, bright yellow crew T-shirts sponsored by the award-winning distillery.

Lee Medd, Head of Place Marketing, Tourism Development & Events for the Annandale Distillery Group, expressed his pride in supporting the local club. “Annandale Distillery is woven into the fabric of this community, and it gives us immense pride to support our local heroes from the Annan Harbour Rowing Club,” said Lee. “Seeing the ‘Pride of Annan’ head to the SkiffieWorlds is a testament to the spirit and dedication of our town. We are thrilled to be a part of their journey and will be cheering them on every step of the way. We wish them the very best of luck.”

The Annan team, with members aged from 29 to 75, has been preparing for months to take part in 12 different races at the championships. The support from the community has been vital.

“It’s been quite a busy few weeks getting things ready,” says Fiona Stoddart, Annan Harbour rower and the club’s SkiffieWorlds co-ordinator. “Thanks to the fantastic support we have had from local companies like Annandale Distillery, we have a smart, newly painted boat and also new shirts that have given all the rowers a real boost as we head to Stranraer.”

The club also extended its thanks to Carrs Billington, who provided paint and varnish for the refurbishment of the community-built racing skiff, and to the members of the Annan Harbour Men’s Shed who helped get the boat race-ready.

SkiffieWorlds 2025 is hosted by Stranraer Water Sports Association and funded by EventScotland, Dumfries & Galloway Council, South of Scotland Enterprise, and other partners. Over 2,000 rowers are expected to attend the major international event.
