During 2015, we produced 869 casks of spirit (about 40% of Annandale’s maximum capacity). Working tirelessly with Dr Jim Swan to perfect our process, we made a few ‘nips’ here and a few ‘tucks’ there, in our uncompromising pursuit of ‘single malt perfection’.
Whilst we’ll never rest on our laurels, we were delighted beyond words when Jim Murray assigned our Man O’Sword Cask 2015/470 the staggering score of 96.5 points out of 100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible*, giving it the accolade of the ‘Best Single Cask, Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 10 Years and Under’! Mr Murray also thought rather a lot of our unpeated Man O’Words (Cask 2015/149) rating it 94/100 and describing it as “brilliantly made”!
To follow on from our Man O’ Sword’s win in 2020, our unpeated 2015 Vintage Man O’ Words has matched its peated counter parts success in Mr Murray’s Whisky Bible by winning the ‘Best Single Cask, Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 10 Years and Under’ for 2021.
We are absolutely over the moon that we have managed to win this accolade two years in a row. Our Vintage Man O’Words 2015 once used ex-bourbon cask, Cask no. 150 gained a staggering 96 points out of 100.
“A truly world-class distillery in our midst…The malt is absolutely immaculate…” Jim Murray.
The majority of our 2015 production was filled into ‘refills’ (54%) with the expectation of longer-term maturation. Of the remaining production, 36% was filled into ‘fresh’ ex-bourbon casks, 5% into authentic sherry butts and 5% into an assortment of other casks.
Our 2015 sherry butts were sourced directly from José y Miguel Martín SA, Spain. These are very rare authentic sherry butts that were used to mature sherry (rather than sherry-conditioned virgin oak casks).
